Bomb Shelter
Since the meltdown,
At regular intervals
I send a smile
To test the air out there.
Mimic
On the outside looking in
on friends and me in gestures
of kinship and hard times,
words and revelations swirl
in spiral shrouds, our
hands bound and feet hobbled—
I feel them by extension
with hands that I don’t know
and cry with strange eyes
all the time removed
to my mist of simple clarity
where their feelings never touch
my quiet mind.
Accomplished
Today
I wrote a poem
and stayed
alive.
