The Poetics of Intimacy & Desire

Writing about longing starts from noticing your own. What tendencies you have when faced with desire. The body reacts to love or potential love in different ways for everyone. This course is designed to identify longing and desire in poetry and the ways it moves the work forward. We will ask, “what does the speaker desire? What is preventing the speaker from this desire? How do we identify longing? Participants will read works from Carl Phillips, Taylor Byas, and Luther Hughes, examining the different ways we explore and engage with our longing.
