Quitting Again

You admire the friends you’ve made from late nights smoking cigarettes: the lavender bed that
shudders when the water pipes shake, the lightning-eyed possums who stare, daring you to
approach them. The man with the shotgun at 3am. When I ask if you miss them, you answer, Yes.
As though your oldest companion has married and moved to Boracay.

And what do you miss the most? Well, there’s your typical shooting stars… you reply,
nonchalant.

You’ve seen so many. Somehow, I always miss them.
